ALMATY. October 8. Qyzdar Ýnıversıteti – The research Institute of social and gender studies at Kazakh national women’s teacher training University conducted a special study on the topic: «Youth is a beautiful time: a socio-psychological portrait of students of higher educational institutions of Almaty».
The project aims to identify the vital values and positions of students studying in higher educational institutions of Almaty by studying their professional skills. Also, the study analyzed the educational indicators of universities.
According to experts of the Institute, students of 8 Universities of Almaty took part in the survey. Among them is Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Kazakh national women’s teacher training University, Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages, Almaty Management University, University of foreign languages and business career, Suleyman Demirel University, and Kazakh Academy of Transport and Communications named after M.Tynyshpaev. In the course of sociological research the questions concerning the choice of University, attitude to knowledge, professional and political orientation, budget sources, students’ leisure time, social identity, marriage, reproductive and gender programs were touched upon.
– Today, due to the instability of youth psychology, inability to find their place in society, luck some levels of education and religious literacy, exclusion from the labor market and a large amount of free time lead to negative consequences. In the course of the study, special attention was paid to the cultural and spiritual lives of young people, including girls, which should be done in the direction of the education of a full-fledged personality and disclosure of their own business, – said experts of the Institute of social and gender studies.
Respondents shared their opinions on the following questions: “Why did you choose this profession?”, “How do you feel about the idea of trilingualism?”, “Are you satisfied with you English class?”, “What difficulties have you faced in learning English?”, “Is a University degree more important for girls rather than boys?”, “Should gender stereotypes be analyzed?”, “Do you think it is much easier for men to get a job after graduation than for girls, or both of them are equal?”, “What gives us a social activity?”, “What is it for?”, “Would you choose another university if you had the opportunity or would you claim to get an education at the expense of your parents?”, and final question was “Why Kazakh daughters wish to marry a foreign citizen?”.
– The survey was attended by a thousand girls. Here 9 focus groups were organized for the women’s University. This similar survey will be conducted in the future among the teaching staff and staff of universities, – said the authors of the project.
