In 2006, to execute the order of Chief of State N.A.Nazarbayev: “Kazakhstan needs trilingual language – this is the guarantee of the bright future of our country” and, in accordance with modern pedagogical requirements, the Department of Basic and Second Foreign Languages was established at the Faculty of Kazakh Philology and World Languages, Kazakh State Women’s Teacher Training University.
On 01.09.2007, Department of Basic and Second Foreign Languages joined to the Faculty of Foreign Languages, signed by the University Principal under the administrative order № 109, August 24, 2007.
From 2006 to 2009, the department was held by Binesh Sholpan Boranbaevna, famous scientist of the RK, doctor of pedagogical sciences, Excellent Worker of Education, Honored Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the dissertational council, editor-in-chief of the journals “Foreign language in schools of Kazakhstan”, “Methodology of training foreign language”,”Pedagogy and art”.
Between 2009-2010, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Zabira Berdibekovna Eshimbetova was appointed to the post of the head of the department on a competitive basis.
Since 2010 to 2016, Department of Basic and Second Foreign Languages is held by Excellent Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, laureate of B. Boltirikov Scholarship, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Nurlanbekova Eriya Kashkenbekovna.
Since September 2015 the department has been renamed into the department of “Foreign languages”.
Since 2016 to the present, the head of the department is PhD. Seidaliyeva Guldana Omarovna.
Over the years, the staff of the department has replenished with new candidates of philology, masters, doctors (PhD). The Chair has established close relations with foreign universities and language centers for the exchange of experience and integration into the world educational space.
On the basis of the department, a language center was opened for further study of foreign languages: Chinese language center with the participation of the deputy chairman of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Jin Noa (2011), the office of the Turkish Embassy in cooperation with the Association of Business Entrepreneurs (Study №307-Class of Turkish Language) Ambassador of the Turkish Republic Kurbani Seyfi, with the participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Cultural Adviser and Director Asgard Sobieri, the cultural center of the “Persian language” was also opened.
Teaching staff of the department completed a scientific internship at the University of Lucknow, Chinese University of Hubei, Xinjiang Normal University, Central University of China, University of Perpignan (France), the University of Omer Khalis Demir, Mugla University (Republic of Turkey).
Department staff has been teaching a second foreign language (French, Chinese, Persian, and Turkish) to students on specialty 5B011900- “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages”.
Within 5 years, the teaching staff prepared manuals, study guides for students of Kazakh and Russian groups in the subjects studied.
Currently, there are 12 teachers at the department (10 full-time teachers), 1 PhD doctor, 1 Candidate of Science, 4 master-teachers, and 4 senior lecturers.
