In 2018, the students of speciality 5B011000-Physics A.Nurlybekovа, M.Abdirakh, P.Karimberdievа took the 3rd place at the M.Kozybayev North-Kazakhstan State University

In the Republican contest of publishing “Heart that loved Fatherland”  dedicated to the 125th  anniversary of  M. Zhumabayev B.Yerbolovа took the second place in 2018. The first year student of the specialty 5B011000-Physics G.Usey became an owner of the diploma of the second degree in the chess tournament dedicated to Z.O.Omarbekova. In the Republican 71-scientific and practical conference of students, master and PhD students “Youth and Science”: the present and the future” B.Erbolova became the owner of the diploma of the I-degree. A.Tayshikova was awarded the diploma of  II degree in the V International Scientific and Practical Conference “Young Scientist-2015” dedicated to the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate. The first-year student A.Aldabergen was awarded  the letter of gratitude from the head of the department for youth policy of the city of Almaty for active contribution in the public life of the city and events among  the youth.

The material and technical equipment of the department is at a high level. Students implement theoretical knowledge in practice in mechanics laboratories, molecular physics and thermodynamics, atomic and nuclear physics, microelectronics, astronomy. In the educational process laboratories “Alternative Energy  Sources”, “Flymart” are optimally introduced in accordance with the research work of the teaching staff of the department and elective disciplines of the specialty. Laboratory “Alternative Energy Sources” is equipped with a heat pump, wind turbine, mini hydroelectric power station with a solar battery, a bi-axial hydro generator.

Operates a mini observatory – Planetarium laboratory equipped with a moving map of the celestial world at the department The  activity of out-lesson section  “Smart Physics” is   carried out in accordance with the Pisa system in the above mentioned laboratories and Robotics laboratory. The “Smart Physics” prepares students for Republican subject Olympiads and conferences.

The department was awarded the diploma “Golden Department of Russia” by the decision of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in 2014.

The department actively develops international relations for entering the world educational space. Currently, the department collaborates with Western International University (London, UK), Silius University (Warsaw, Poland), Latvian State University (Riga, Latvia), A.Razzakov Kyrgyz State University (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan), Institute of Solid State Physics ( Riga, Latvia), Solar Energy Institute (Tashkent, Uzbekistan). The main areas of cooperation with foreign partner universities are: advanced training of the scientific and pedagogical staff of the department, academic exchange of students and teachers on academic exchange programs, joint research and conference organization. On the basis of an agreement with the Western International College in 2018-2019, students of the specialty  5B011000-Physics degree program A. Berdykozha, E.Shaimerden, D.Baizakova A.Kaliyeva are trained under the program of academic mobility (London, United Kingdom).

Today, the department employs the holders of the “Best Teacher of the University” grant, laureates of the Bolashak degree program, and Supervisors of research projects of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The first head of the department of physics in 1945 was M.Zhylkybayev. Also at the position of head of the department were: F.Polatbekov, S.Mukhtarov, A.Zhanalinova, U.Zhadrayev, E.Egizbayeva, A.Akylbekov, professor, doctor of technical sciences A.Zhamalov (1992-2007), professor, doctor of physics and mathematics sciences A.Ershina (2007-2011), candidate of physics and mathematics sciences, associate professor U.Parmanbekov (2011-2015), candidate of physics and mathematics sciences, associate professor  E. Tasbolat (2015-2018). Since 2018 the  Head of  the Department of Physics is Ph.D Dr. G.Kaptagay.

Research at the department

Teachers of the department conduct research to determine the need for the application of methodological ideas in the methodology of teaching physics and implementation of theoretical foundations. In particular, Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor A. Zhamalov won a research project on the theme “Creating bivalent micro-hydro stations for autonomous users”. Doctor of  Physical and Mathematical Sciences, professor A.K. Ershina was a responsible researcher in the project “Development of wind turbines of the carousel type with high technical and economic indicators” (2012-2014) and “Alternative sources of energy” (1.09.2011 – 1.09.2012).  A.K.Yershina passed a scientific internship on a scholarship of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Bolashak” in the laboratory “Non-traditional energy sources” of  M.B.Lomonosov Moscow State University.

The department conducts research work on alternative sources of energy “Microhydroelectric Station”, “Flat Solar Collector” (scientific advisor, professor A.Zhamalov) in 2015-2017, scientific project “Wind turbine Bidare” (scientific advisor A.Ershina) in 2008-2010, “Modeling the catalytic properties of  nitrogen doped cobaltum oxide” (PhD supervisor, Dr. G.Kaptagay) in 2018-2020.

Professor of the department A.Tatenov, author and developer of virtual laboratory works on mechanics, molecular physics and thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, optics, atomic and nuclear physics, biology (genetic engineering, Mendel laws, genetic code, photosynthesis), chemistry (virtual periodic system) D.I.
