NUR-SULTAN. September 27. Press center – Kazakhstani vaccine «QazVac» effectively protects against variant «Delta». These are the results of research carried out by employees of the Scientific Research Institute of Biological Safety Problems of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Scientists conducted a neutralization reaction test, which showed a high level of antibodies in those vaccinated with the domestic vaccine «QazVac». Virus-neutralizing antibodies were detected in more than 90% of the volunteers who took part in clinical trials.

Studies were also conducted on laboratory animals. It has been established that antibodies produced in hamsters after vaccination with «QazVac» can neutralize the so-called Indian variant of coronavirus.

We conducted studies to determine the ability of antibodies formed by the QazVac vaccine to neutralize emerging variants of coronavirus, including –“Wuhan”, “Alpha-British”, “Delta-Indian”. The results showed that post-vaccination antibodies form immunity and are able to neutralize all three types of the virus. We also carried out experiments on laboratory animals in the following way: we took laboratory hamsters, both received the QazVac vaccine and were not vaccinated. After a while, they were infected with the delta variant. As a result, unvaccinated hamsters became infected with the delta variant of coronavirus. And the animals vaccinated with the QazVac vaccine did not get sick and turned out to be protected from the Delta virus variant, – said Kunsulu Zakarya, Director General of the Scientific Research Institute of Biological Safety Problems of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The data obtained confirmed the effectiveness of QazVac against existing strains of coronavirus, including the ability of the domestic vaccine to protect against the delta variant.

Note that the QazVac coronavirus vaccine was developed by scientists of the Scientific Research Institute of Biological Safety Problems of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. For more than 60 years of history, RIBSP has accumulated vast experience in the field of biological safety, virology, microbiology, immunology. Scientists of the institute have developed and introduced more than 60 types of drugs, including 30 vaccines, 16 test systems, and more than 15 different biological products. Over the past 10 years, the Institute has developed technologies for the manufacture of domestic vaccines against avian and swine flu.
