The Department of Physical Education, as an independent department, was organized in 1949. The first head of the department of physical culture is Rakhimgulov Muzafar Rakhimgulovich.
The staff of the department was staffed with masters of sports, such highly qualified personnel as: G.T. Izyashcheva, T.P. Gorodetskaya, N.I. Voinova - rhythmic and artistic gymnastics; MP Suslova - fencing; L.I. Elesina, B.D. Dzhanguzhin - basketball; M. Simanyuk - handball; V.A. Bakryashov - athletics and others. They made an invaluable contribution to the formation and development of physical culture in the Institute and the Republic as a whole, their wards in different years successfully performed in competitions, became prize-winners and champions of the Kazakh SSR. There are the following achievements:
O. Apataeva - student of the library faculty (1966-1970), the first Kazakh woman who received the title of Master of Sports of the USSR, entered into the Kazakh Soviet Encyclopedia (1972).
Students M. Rymbaeva - equestrian sport, B. Zheksembaeva - bicycle race, S. Dzhumalieva - bullet shooting, R. Ablohatova - smooth race, they are repeated champions of the USSR and KazSSR.
In 1957, to improve the educational and training process on the shore of Issyk-Kul, on the basis of the Kyrgyz ZhenPI, M.R. Rakhimgulov opens a summer sports camp for students-members of national teams, which functioned until 1974. In 1958, a department of tourism was opened at the department, and students of the Institute, after special training, began to make constant pedestrian transitions to the base camp on Issyk-Kul.
For physical education outside the classroom, sports clubs and sections have been created: athletics, judo, sambo, basketball, volleyball, football, weightlifting, table tennis, aerobics, togyzkumalak, badminton, chess, woo shu, aerofitness.
